PROVIDENCE C.A.T.S. (Carer And Toddler Session)

Since the summer holidays we have soon got back into the swing of meeting on a Wednesday afternoon each week.  We have lost a few children to school and nursery but already have new ones attending so we are averaging 8 children with their mothers or grandmothers at the moment and we are enjoying ourselves with the usual activities and chat.  We do have room for a few more children – just come along Wednesday 1.00pm to 2.45pm during term time.

We have had a busy time making Valentine and Easter cards, posies for Mother’s Day and Easter rabbits and, of course, enjoying ourselves playing and chatting!

During the Easter break we have cleaned and sorted all the toys and equipment ready for the summer when we plan to plant sunflowers, making beach pictures and lots more.

Last summer we were able to play outside on the grass in the shade of the church building so let’s hope we have more dry Wednesdays this year!

We look forward to welcoming any carer (mum, dad, grandparent or childminder) with children under school age to join us on Wednesdays from 1.00pm to 3.00pm, during term time.

For more information, please telephone Elizabeth (Group Leader) on 01422 342470

Thanks

Many thanks to all who supported our Sponsored Activity circuit in the summer. A total of £162.50 was raised for equipment. Sadly the new bookcase we ordered proved unsuitable and had to be returned so we are still looking for a replacement.

Our new session is up and running and although some of our 'regulars' have left to go into education we have new children and still have fun.

CATS Sponsored Activity Circuit

On Wednesday June 16th from 1.30pm the children will be taking part in a sponsored activity circuit to raise money for a new bookcase and replacement toys. They will go up, down, through and over slides, tunnels, ball pools, see-saws etc, and be sponsored by family and friends.

If any of the congregation would like to come and join us we can promise an entertaining half hour and a cuppa. We did it last year for charity and had lots of fun so we anticipate an enjoyable afternoon again.

PROVIDENCE CATS (CARER AND TODDLER SESSION)

REPORT 2003

Although we had to close for a week in February, the added comfort of having better heating in the Raikes Room and the toilet was well worth it. This may be the reason we have had more regular attendance this year, which really helps with running costs.

We have again received two grants this year. We got £3000 from Surestart to fit covers to the new radiators, decorate the room and kitchen and fit a new carpet. As this did not quite cover the cost we were able to use some of the £250 we received from M&S. This is given to a charity which an employee works for - thank you Lisa!

Over the year we have made the usual Valentine cards, Easter bonnets, bookmarks, Christmas cards and decorations and calendars with hand prints. We have planted sunflowers (which grew!), as well as making lots of pictures and playing in sand and water etc.

We have had several visitors over the year but I mention two. The Road Safety Officers took the parents and children outside to show how to learn / teach kerb drill etc. and the Oral Health worker showed the parents how to look after the children's teeth. To help set a good example we have changed from juice and biscuits to water and fruit or breadsticks for the children’s refreshments - except for the Christmas party of course!

We have had a photograph in the Courier again this year. Having received lots of money for ourselves we decided to have a fund-raising event for charity. One of our children was treated in the Yorkshire Children's Heart Surgery Unit in LGI so we had a Sponsored Activity Circuit in July. Not only did we raise £240 for the unit but we had great fun as well!

Thank you for the support of members of the congregation who have come along for our events and Christmas Carol Service and party. We really appreciate your interest.
